1. Sprinkle on soups & salads

Just before serving, sprinkle on a few dried edible flower petals or carefully place a few fresh ones on top of your soups and salads.

Edible flowers look especially pleasing on pureed soups (perhaps a pumpkin or cauliflower bisque?) and fresh green salads. They add just the right amount of wow factor to let your dinner guests know how much thought and intention you put into feeding them a delicious meal.

PRO TIP: Savory flowers such a nasturtiums, arugula flowers, and mustard flowers go especially well with savory foods like soups and salads. Plus, these peppery flowers add a perfect little punch of flavor. But any flowers will do!

2. Stir them into your biscuits & scones

Everybody loves a flaky biscuit and a melt-in-your-mouth scone straight out of the oven. Flowers add pizazz!

Fold a small handful of either fresh or dried edible flowers into your dough just before you roll it out. You can also press the fresh or dried edible flowers into the top of the dough just before baking for a more decorative touch.

PRO TIP: Think flavor as much as aesthetic here! Using especially fragrant and flavorful edible flowers like lavender and flowers of herbs like thyme and rosemary are incredible ways to add flavor to your biscuits and scones. Lemon lavender scones? Yes, please! Or whip up a quick blend of herbs de Provence with lavender flowers for your savory herbed biscuits.

3. Decorate cookies, cakes & pretty much any other sweet treat or pastry

This is our jam! Edible flowers were born for cookies, cakes, and literally any other sweet treat. We’re open to being proven wrong about this, but we’re pretty sure we’re 100% right. 🙂

Both fresh and edible flowers can turn a homemade dessert into a gourmet work of art in a matter of seconds.

If using fresh flowers, know that they will wilt and are best applied right before enjoying your sweet treats. On the other hand, dried flowers are a lot less finicky and can be added at anytime.

4. Roll soft cheeses in dried flower petals

It’s literally as easy as it sounds! Just roll any soft cheese, dairy or non-dairy, in a confetti of either dried or fresh edible flower petals like you would to coat it in herbs or even chopped nuts. These make beautiful and colorful additions to charcuterie boards or great appetizers for your dinner parties and/or holiday celebrations.

Plus, you can color coordinate with the occasion. Edible petals that are shades of yellow, orange, and red add a special touch to fall gatherings such as Halloween parties or Thanksgiving dinners. We love our Golden Hour Flora-fetti for exactly this reason!

Spring gatherings such as Spring Solstice or Easter Celebrations call for an abundance of color after grey winters. Try a rainbow colored blend for these occasions. Use your imagination! Anything goes!

5. Top off a cocktail or mocktail

After all that work you’ve put into crafting the most delicious cocktail or mocktail, don’t you think a fresh edible flower like a pansy or a little sprinkle of dried petal confetti will add just the right kind of finishing touch!?

If you find yourself thinking: “it just needs something, but I can’t quiet…” It’s an edible flower. When in doubt, just add a flower.

This is a great one for all those moments that call for anything and everything dipped in chocolate… like every moment of every day. It doesn’t have to be strawberries; you could dip any kind of fresh or dried fruit into chocolate. Or try dipping cookies, pretzels, or brownie bites in chocolate before decorating with edible flowers.

If the melted chocolate is extra runny, wait for it to solidify a wee bit before sprinkling with either fresh or dried edible petals. This way, the petals won’t run right off with the melted chocolate, but don’t wait too long or they won’t stick at all.

8. Make flower & herb butter

Here’s another super fancy, but ultra easy dinner party trick! It can be as easy as smearing butter, dairy or non-dairy (vegan), on a decorative serving platter and sprinkling fresh edible petals and herbs on top as in this recipe.

Another option is to let butter soften a bit at room temperature and then use a fork to stir in either fresh or dried edible flower and herbs into the softened butter. Then you can either use a piece of plastic wrap to form into a disk, roll, or block or silicone molds to shape the butter before refrigerating until solid.

And even another option is to use a spice grinder or mortar and pestle to process dried edible flowers to a finer consistency that’s almost, but non quite a powder. Then roll a log of butter in it as you would a soft cheese.

Whichever route your choose, serve your edible flower and herb butter with toasted baguette, warm biscuits, or skillet cornbread fresh out of the oven! Of if it’s spaghetti night, try spreading edible flower butter on your garlic bread!

PRO TIP: If using dried edible flowers, be sure they are processed to small pieces as they’re not as easy to bite through as the fresh edible flowers.
